The Staten Island Green Charter School (SIGCS) has an active charter application on file with the New York State Education Department (NYSED)
The school anticipates opening in August 2015 with grades K-2 only; after which it will grow into a K-8 college preparatory school with the class of 2021 as its first graduates. Again, the school only opens with grade K, 1 and 2 and will add an addition grade each year after. In 2016, the school will have grades K, 1, 2 & 3. In 2017 the schools will have grades K, 1, 2, 3, & 4 and will continue to add another grade each year until 2021 when it will serve K-8 grades.
SIGCS will provide a standards-driven education that integrates high-quality environmental education. The school will provide its students with experiential learning that uses math, reading, science, and writing skills in the context of unusual opportunities for urban students to be outdoors and develop an understanding about what being green means, and how preparing for newly evolving careers will help ensure a better future for all.
All interested parents and community members can give their valued support by contacting us and joining the growing number of people borough-wide who are behind the effort in Staten Island to welcome a new school that prepares its children to become caring environmental stewards who will be able to pursue the newest jobs on the horizon in our changing world.
Admissions will be by lottery if the number of applicants exceeds the number of available seats.
Thank you for your interest in our K-8 Green Charter School, where students prepare for future careers in a green economy through a K-8 college preparatory program that includes environmental discovery.
